THE WORLD OF BEES

IMG_1342_edited.jpg

The Hives

Two hives, two queens, and so many bees!

We keep two hives of Carniolan honey bees. They are a sturdy disease resistant bee, that does well in the PNW weather.

Carniolan

We keep Carniolan honey bees in our hives. They are mild tempered, and easy to work with. These bees originate from Eastern Europe (Austrian Alps, Yugoslavia, and Danube Valley regions).

Food

Nectar and Pollen are foraged to make honey.

Weather

Due to their region of origin, they are more likely to forage on cold, wet days than other types of bees. They also build up their numbers rapidly in the spring.

Queen and Hive

Carniolan bees tend to be quite capable of fending off parasites and show good resistance to some diseases.
